Constipation: an overview and more

Fiber, found in many foods, including fruits, vegetables, and grains, comes in two flavors: soluble and insoluble. Both have significant health benefits. The fiber softens and increases the volume of stool, which facilitates the evacuation of stool and helps maintain the health of the colon. Some disorders, such as constipation and irregularity, may be associated with inadequate fiber intake.
