Geritol: fertility, conception, risks and more

  Articles

Geritol, a brand of vitamin and mineral supplements, is touted by some as a fertility enhancer. There is no scientific evidence that geritol can increase your chances of conceiving.

The manufacturer even points out on its website that the claim that Geritol will help you get pregnant is false. They do not claim fertility and claim that their vitamins are not formulated to meet the needs of pregnant or lactating women.

Geritol versus prenatal vitamins

Vitamins for pregnant women are specially formulated for pregnant women. Certain vitamins and minerals such as folic acid, iron, and calcium are needed in large amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and prenatal vitamins provide these additional nutrients.

Geritol is a multivitamin formulated to meet the needs of adults based on general recommendations for the intake of vitamins and minerals. The manufacturer claims that their products are not designed to meet the needs of pregnant women.

You can take Geritol as a multivitamin when trying to conceive and during pregnancy, but it was not made for this purpose, so it may not be the best option.

Talk to your healthcare provider about which supplement is best suited to your needs to maintain your health while trying to conceive and during pregnancy.

Vitamins and fertility

Taking a multivitamin keeps you healthy and helps prevent nutritional deficiencies that can make pregnancy difficult. However, it is not true that taking a multivitamin like geritol can increase your chances of pregnancy.

Prenatal vitamins and fertility

Taking prenatal vitamins will not increase your chances of getting pregnant, but the supplements they contain are important for a developing baby.

Folic acid is an essential vitamin for women who can become pregnant. Folic acid is a B vitamin that helps in the development of the spine during pregnancy.

When your body lacks enough folic acid during pregnancy, a condition called neural tube defect can occur. Neural tube defects are serious birth defects of the brain and spine. An example of neural tube defects is spina bifida , where the lower part of the spine does not close completely during the baby's development.

Research shows that the neural tube develops during the early stages of pregnancy, between two and four weeks. Many women do not know they are pregnant until at least four weeks pregnant, so it is important to take a vitamin supplement with enough folic acid when trying to conceive.

Vitamin risks

For most people, as long as you are not taking massive doses of vitamins and minerals, taking a daily vitamin and mineral supplement is safe. Daily multivitamins like Geritol are formulated for daily use when taken in the recommended serving size.

Talk about vitamins with your healthcare provider.

It is important to discuss any supplement you want to take with your doctor to make sure it is safe for your specific medical history.

Remember that when you are taking nutritional supplements, these vitamins and minerals are also present in the foods you eat. You may not need to take supplements if you eat a diet varied enough to meet your vitamin and mineral needs.

Certain types of vitamins and minerals build up in the body, so taking large doses can cause them to build up to toxic levels. Here are some examples of those stored in the body:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K
  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Sodium
  • Magnesium
  • Chloride

Increase fertility

One of the best ways to increase your chances of getting pregnant is to maintain consistent healthy habits, including:

  • Eat nutritious food
  • Training
  • Sleep a little
  • Stress management

Maintaining a healthy body makes it easier to get pregnant and increases your chances of a healthy pregnancy.

However, remember that it takes time to get pregnant. Even people who have consistently healthy habits can have a hard time getting pregnant.

You can also increase your chances of getting pregnant by knowing your menstrual cycle and ovulation time to understand when your fertile window is during the month.

When to seek help

If you have been trying to get pregnant for more than a year, or if you are over 35 and have been trying to get pregnant for six months, consider speaking with a fertility specialist.

Get the word of drug information

It is normal for couples to go six to 12 months before becoming pregnant. If you have been actively trying to conceive for over a year and are concerned about your fertility, consider speaking with your doctor for an evaluation of your fertility and helping him find solutions for you.

There is no research to support the claims that geritol will help you get pregnant and geritol is not formulated to meet the needs of pregnant or lactating women. You can take Geritol while you are trying to conceive, but you should discuss with your doctor whether this is the best option for you.

Your healthcare provider may recommend a different dietary supplement that is best suited to your needs based on your specific medical history. You can also learn more about healthy habits and fertility periods to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
