Peptic Ulcers: Overview and More

H. pylori

The bacteria are believed to be the main cause of peptic ulcers and chronic gastritis, conditions that were previously thought to be caused by stress and poor diet.

Symptoms of H. pylori infection can include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and tarry stools. Blood, stool, and respiratory tests can be used to confirm infection, after which an endoscopic exam can be performed to look inside the stomach.
