Thyroid Cancer: Overview and More

Medullary thyroid cancer, a rare type, can start with a lump in the neck. It can grow rapidly and metastasize. It begins in the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid gland, which produce calcitonin, a calcium-regulating hormone. It is usually treated with a complete thyroidectomy followed by radiation, chemotherapy, and / or targeted therapy and continuous long-term follow-up.
