Thyroid disease: an overview and more

A treatment commonly used to treat hyperthyroidism or Graves' disease. Radioactive iodine is given as a single dose and is taken by mouth in liquid or capsule form.

Iodine enters the thyroid gland, damaging and killing thyroid cells found anywhere in the body. This shrinks the thyroid gland, slows its function, and reverses hyperthyroidism.
