What does

Toradol, like other NSAIDs, helps reduce the amount of substances that cause inflammation . Consequently, toradol is effective in reducing the signs and symptoms of inflammation, such as swelling, pain, and fever. However, some studies have shown toradol to be more effective. than other NSAIDs to reduce pain from inflammatory and non-inflammatory causes .

Toradol is commonly used as a short-term treatment for chronic pain conditions such as arthritis, and is sometimes prescribed to people for pain relief after surgery.

Most people using toradol receive it by injection. For adults, it can be prescribed for up to five days.

Toradol tablets can be taken by mouth and a nasal spray is also available. The drug can also be given intravenously (IV).

Side effects / risks

Toradol carries the same risk of side effects as all NSAIDs. In clinical trials of NSAIDs, gastrointestinal problems, such as abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, and gas, were the most common side effects reported in more than 10% of participants. Drowsiness, headaches, skin rash and itching, anemia, hypertension, tinnitus, sweating, dizziness, and fluid retention have also been reported.

Toradol can cause peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, and stomach or intestinal dysfunction. Therefore, the use of this medicine is contraindicated for people with a history of these problems or who are at high risk of developing these problems. Toradol is also contraindicated in people with or at risk of severe kidney disease and in those at high risk of bleeding (including those at high risk of stroke).

Toradol should only be taken for short-term relief of severe pain, as it can have serious side effects. When taken correctly, Toradol can treat short-term pain without the effects of stronger pain relievers, such as medications and opioids. If your healthcare provider prescribes it, be sure to ask what is the best way to take it and what side effects to watch out for.
