Start with the BRAT diet
If you or your child can handle clear liquids without vomiting, you may be ready to start eating. However, don't do it too fast. Make sure you can retain the liquid for eight to twelve hours before trying to eat.
If you feel like you can eat something by then, start with soft, starchy foods. You should avoid heavy, fatty, or acidic foods, such as tomatoes or oranges, until you feel better.
You may have heard of the BRAT diet . BRAT stands for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast because these foods are good choices when you're sick. The BRAT guidelines can help you choose the right food to help you get rid of vomiting.
The BRAT diet offers soft foods that are easy to digest for stomach problems. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast aren't the only foods you can eat, but they are good examples, so you'll know where to start.
If you vomit again after eating these foods, go back to step 1.
