Types of Physicians: Some General Medical Specialties

Dermatologists diagnose and treat conditions that affect the hair, skin, and nails. This can include treating skin rashes or acne, diagnosing melanoma (skin cancer), and more.

In addition to this, dermatologists also perform a variety of cosmetic procedures that are paid for out of pocket rather than insurance. These treatments include Botox injections, laser skin treatments, and more.

After medical school, dermatologists must complete a dermatology residency. Scholarships are not required, but some dermatologists may attend if they decide to specialize in a specific aspect of dermatology.

Dermatology is a very competitive field for physicians. One of the reasons for this is that dermatologists are very well paid. As a general rule, only the best medical students are accepted for dermatology residency.
